What are orthotics?
At Momentum Physiotherapy & Health Services our therapists use the latest TOG Gaitscan technology to assess for and prescribe custom made orthotics.
Orthotics are devices worn in your shoes that provide correction and assistance to your feet, helping them to function more efficiently.
Poor foot function and alignment may be the cause of a number of different pains you may experience including:
- Foot pain
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Back pain
Prescription orthotics can help relieve your pain by realigning and stabilising the bones and soft tissues in your feet, restoring your natural walking pattern.
What is TOG Gaitscan?
Gaitscan is a combination of state of the art computer hardware and software that helps your therapist to assess your feets biomechanics.
The Gaitscan system records your timing sequences during gait as you walk or run across the pressure plate. This enables your practitioner to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics and whether you would benefit from wearing custom made orthotics. The system generates 2D and 3D images of your foot strikes on the force plate which clearly illustrate problem areas with your gait when you are both static (standing still) and dynamic (walking or running).
Current research has found that the most accurate way of prescribing orthotics has been to use a dynamic gait analysis system.
