What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is one form of therapy used by qualified Physiotherapists which has been adapted from the art of Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese medicinal practice which involves placing very fine needles into the skin in identified Acupuncture points. This type of needling helps to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi (chi) in the body.
Dry needling unlike Acupuncture uses what is known as myofascial trigger points located within muscles in the body to achieve its therapeutic effects. The mechanism by which Dry Needling works is therefore very different to that of Acupuncture.
How does Dry Needling work?
Using Dry Needling to stimulate trigger points can desensitise these specific points and the surrounding area to relieve muscular pain, promote healing and increase the production of endorphins.
