At Momentum Physiotherapy & Health Services our Massage Therapists are skilled in various massage therapy techniques.
If you’ve never had a massage before it can be difficult to figure out which type of massage is right for you, below is a quick guide to the types of massage offered at Momentum.
If you suffer from tired aching muscles, a sore back, headaches or chronic muscle pain, remedial massage may help to alleviate pain and dysfunction in the body. This massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using techniques such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and stretching/strengthening exercises.
If you train at the gym, go walking or running or are involved in regular sports, sports massage may be for you. Working to bring awareness to the proper functioning of the body, sports massage can help you to recover from injuries, relieving the pain of muscle tears and injuries, speeding up recovery time. The techniques used include myofascial release, trigger point therapy and frictions combined with stretching and strengthening programs.
If you are looking for general relaxation as well as general good health and wellbeing a Relaxation Massage is the best option. The focus of a Relaxation Massage is on the the superficial muscles which are massaged using long smooth strokes, kneading and effleurage.
Cupping can be used during a massage therapy treatment session to help activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation and aid in deep tissue repair. Glass cups are applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced, either by heat or suction, to draw and hold the skin and superficial muscles within the cup.
* Please note: This technique is currently only available at our Bella Vista practice with Olivera Visnjic.
